Stewart Island is a great place

Kahu has had a good look around Stewart Island. Here are some places he visited.

Do you know the name of the bird that visited Kahu this morning? We gave it some bread but we have now bought some apples to feed it.

Kahu arrived safely

It was a very bumpy crossing on the ferry but once we got nearer to Stewart Island the sea  was calmer. Kahu visited Halfmoon Bay School to join a Te Reo Maori lesson. The kaiako taught Te Reo Maori online.  The tamariki learn very similar phrases to us and know lors of waiata. They play guitar and ukelele to accompany the waiata. They learn music from the same kaiako through the virtual learning network.  Kahu also listened to the Halfmoon Bay School rock band ... tumeke!

Kahu is going to Stewart Island

Kahu is having his next holiday in Stewart Island before going to the Noho Marae on Friday.  He is watching freight bring loaded onto the ferry. He wonders if Fouveux Straight will be rough this morning...

There a lots of police and soldiers with guns in France.

We have seen many police and soldiers carrying machine guns in the towns we have visited in France. They are trying to keep people safe from terrorist threats.

Kahu has seen lots of playgrounds in France like we have in NZ

Kahu has a great view from the top deck of the river cruise boat.

Kahu has been on a river cruise on the Seine River.

He visited the Captain Rene in the wheelhouse. The Captain explained how the cruise boat navigates the river which has many locks and lots of other ships and barges using it.

Kahu went up 56 floors in a lift which only took 38 seconds.  It is the fastest lift in Europe. You can see good views of a Paris just like the Eiffel tower. After the lift, which takes you to the viewing room. You walk up three flights of stairs to the roof viewing area. The building is called the Montparnasse Tower. Kahu travelled on the ICE train from Frankfurt to Paris.  Can you find the name of one of the stations where the train stopped?  How fast does this train travel?

Different Money

Today, Kahu goes back to Germany which uses Euros. He is getting quite confused by the different money in countries. He wanted to show you the Czechoslovakian Koruna and the Polish Zloty.

Kahu stayed in a very lovely hotel that looks like a castle. Google ' Hotel Schloss Wilhelminenberg and you will see more pictures. Can you find Kahu by steps?

Dragons are a special symbol of Krakow

Krakovians tell many legends about dragons. Kahu even found dragons on the downpipes on the Royal Castle of Castle.  When it rains the water comes gushing out the dragons mouth!

Kahu stayed in Budapest, Hungary for 2 nights

Hungary uses different money from any other country, called Hungarian Forints. However, we could buy things in most of the shops we went to in Euros which is the money used in many countries in Europe. The prices were written in forints though. We brought a book about Budapest that cost 15000 Hungarian forints. How many euros did that cost us? How many NZ dollars would that be?

Who can see the river in Kahu's view of Budapest. What is this river called. It divides the city into 2 parts, Buda and Pest. 

We went for a dinner cruise on the river at night. Many buildings are lit up at night. This building is the Hungarian Parliament building.

Old Town Square Krakow, Poland

There are many beautiful buildings in Krakow. Some of the buildings were built in the 11th century which makes them nearly 1000 years old! We had lunch at the old town square.

Kahu wondered what these words are on this packet of biscuits we bought from a shop in Kraków which is in Poland.  He used  Google Translate to help him understand the words and then to practice reading them.  You might like to do this too. They cost 3.99 Zlotys. How much was that in NZ dollars?

We have used different money during our trip. We used HongKong dollars, the Euro in Germany and this is the money that is used in Poland, where we spend 4 days. Can you find out what this money is called? How much Polish money would we get for $10 of New Zealand money.

Evening in Frankfurt

Kahu visited the historic square in the centre of Frankfurt which has very beautiful buildings.  He found a giant Steiner bear. He also enjoyed tasting fresh hot  pretzels. He is travelling to Berlin today.

Stopover in HongKong.

We had 17 hours to fill in at Hong Kong airport while waiting for our flight to Frankfurt. Thankfully we spent a lot of this time at an airport hotel within the  airport.  We haven't been able to leave the airport. Kahu was amazed by the number of taxis he saw coming to pick up passengers.

Kahu is excited! On Tuesday July 21st Kahu Kiwi is going on a very exciting holiday with Mr and Mrs Booth, leaving Cromwell for Auckland. On Thursday 23rd July, Kahu has two very long flights, firstly to HongKong and then to Frankfurt, Germany. Kahu will share some of his adventures with you.
